Math Specialist

Teaches

3rd/4th grade and Upper School mathematics

Liggy Chien arrived at Knox in 2019, and she has stayed here because she loves teaching bright and curious students. She enjoys the creative freedom and the intimate environment that Knox provides its teachers and students. As a result, her math classes can focus on exploration, conversation, and collaborative problem solving as the primary ways to learn and enjoy mathematics. After earning degrees from Rice University and the University of Chicago, she taught algebra through AP Calculus for 11 years at New Trier High School, just north of Chicago. Ms. Chien moved to Santa Barbara 22 years ago when her husband joined the faculty at UCSB. Together they raised two children in this community, and they believe there is no better place to raise a family!
